Waiting for Obama tickets that didn’t exist.

February 9th, 2009

Driving out to the Harborside Event Center at about 2 am, I had a bad feeling about the 1500 tickets that were being given away for President Obama’s town hall style meeting in Fort Myers, Florida on February 10.  As I arrived, it was obvious that I was too late. There were quite a few hundred people already in the line, with their blankets, tents, coolers and everything they needed to stay for the duration; at 9 am the ticket counter opened.  Their spirits seemed to be high, because they were going to have an opportunity to see Barack Obama in person.  Going with my gut, an injured shoulder and it being a might chilly, I headed back home. I just didn’t think there were going to be enough tickets to go around.

To my surprise, I watched the news this morning and heard that people in positions of 150 to 180 did not receive tickets.  Now, I’m no mathematician, but 2 tickets per person from 1500 tickets should mean that people at least to the 700 person mark, should have received their free tickets.

It sadly became apparent that 1500 tickets were never available to the general public.  I have no problem with Democratic volunteers receiving tickets, but politicians and news media personnel?  The bottom line however is that the people who put out the number of 1500 tickets were wrong in doing so.  I know people want to try and blame President Obama for this, but please use your head.  Do you think Obama was directly involved with the ticket process for this or any event?  I think he has bigger fish to fry.  And from what I see in him as a man, he will not be very happy when he does hear about what happened with this ticket fiasco and his trip to Fort Myers.  I totally understand the anger and frustration of people that waited for hours, when there was no chance of them receiving tickets.

Sheyla goes with 38KKK implants.

February 6th, 2009

sheyla_hersheyHow big is too big you may ask?  Well Sheyla Hershey of Houston, Texas thinks that 38KKK breast implants aren’t big enough.  She recently had over 7000 cc’s of silicone pumped into her breasts and has recorded the world record for largest breast implants as reported by Fox News. She looks forward to even more surgery and having over 10,000 cc’s in total silicone added to her breasts.

Now I’m a man.  I like breasts and far be it for me to judge Sheyla as I don’t know her or the type of person she is, but for health reasons, I think she has more than enough silicone in her body.  I’m not sure of her reasons for doing all of this, but it has been reported that she dumped her boyfriend, because he did not want her to have any more breast enhancements.

“To me, big is beautiful. I don’t think I have anything to worry about.” – Sheyla Hershey

I loved him very much but I had to leave him to follow my dream.” – Sheyla Hershey

Because of the legal limits of breast implants in America, Sheyla had to go to Brazil to have the procedure done.  People are bashing this 28 year old, young lady, calling her some of the foulest names in the book, and I’m pretty sure none of them know her.  It’s fine to state our own opinions, but really, the name calling isn’t necessary.

I am in no way condoning her procedures and if my daughter decided to go this route, I wouldn’t be too happy. But in the end, it would be her decision as it is Sheyla’s and although I wouldn’t like it, I would not be calling her a slut and whore.

I really think the doctors that performed the surgery should be held liable for any health issues down the road for Sheyla, because I’m sure they know the risks and did it for the money anyhow.

Good luck Sheyla and I hope you find happiness in something other than breast implants.

Fantasy Fishing is back!

February 6th, 2009

In about 5 days or so, FantasyFishing.com will be starting it’s second year fantasy contest.  I’m a recent fishing fan and found myself joining this new and interesting spin on fantasy sports. Yes, you’ve played in your office hockey, football and NCAA basketball pools, well now you can add fishing to that list.  If you’re not that interested in fishing, the ten million, yes that’s $10,000,000 in cash and prizes may peak your interest enough to get involved.  Thanks to Wal-Mart and The FLW Outdoor Fishing Tour for starting this up.

I didn’t win the million dollar prize last year, but I did collect quite a few smaller prizes, $75 in Wal-Mart gift cards and about $150 in gas cards.  Not too bad for a free entry and watching and learning how to catch the bigger fish.

The concept is simple, pick your team of anglers for each of the FLW Bass Tour locations and collect points based on their performance and standings.  The great part about this is, if you finish in the number one position after a tournament, you win $100,000 cash (my objective this year :) ) and you are automatically entered into the final at the end of the fishing season.

Michael Thompson of St. Michael, Minnesota

Above is last years million dollar winner, Michael Thompson after he received the big cheque for winning the inaugural Fantasy Fishing Challenge in a close finale.

As I mention before, $10,000,000 is up for grabs this year and my main recommendation is to sign up for Players Advantage.  It’s only $10 this year and well worth it, if you’re serious about trying to win the big money.  I didn’t have it last year as the cost was $30 and I wasn’t really sure if it was necessary and if I would really get involved with the competition.  Boy was that a mistake.  One of the key tools the Players Advantage offers is the ability to see which fishermen are local to each lake.  This is a very important piece of information as those fishermen know the lake very well and where to catch the biggest and best fish.  It wasn’t fun trying to find that out manually, although the information is out there, if you have time to go looking for it.

I look forward to getting this going and if you join and want to enter my personal league for some bragging rights and trash talk, just leave me an email, or a comment and I’ll send you the info.  Now let’s start fishing… virtually of course!  Good Luck!

Oakland Police shoot restrained man in the back.

January 25th, 2009

oscar grant killed

This story has been buzzing around the media for a while and I’ve been listening and reading about it on the web.  Some of the comments I’ve read about the shooting of Oscar Grant range from outright racist, to just plain ignorant.  If you are delusional enough to think racism is a thing of the past, an incident like this really allows people to voice their true colors, with the anonymity of the internet.  The whole situation is very sad really, and contrary to what some people may think, although he was a black man, he didn’t have any past history of gang violence, drug dealing or “thugery” of any kind.

The problem that usually arises after these incidents is that when the police do something wrong, they are rarely penalized or put to justice. It is just insane how many people of colour (not just black folk) have been shot and killed by the police, with some outlandish reasons and excuses. Common sense should tell you that not ALL police are bad.  If they were, we’d be seeing and hearing about issues every day. But the problem is, when one bad cop does show up, the outcome is usually favorable for the police.  They get suspended with pay and then cleared of all wrong doing. That is the real problem and why people, including myself,  have little faith or trust in the police.

As sad as this story is, I am glad that video has surfaced showing exactly what happened. It should be clear to anyone that this young man was face down, restrained and appeared to require no further action.  The officer that shot Mr. Grant claims it was an accident, since he meant to fire his taser and not his revolver.  I’m no gun expert, but from photo’s and video I have seen, a gun and a taser seem quite different from each other, so a trained officer of the law should be able to make that distinction.

Accident or not, Oscar Grant was restrained and then he was shot and killed. We will see how this investigation will be handled and what happens to the officer in question.  There are reports (Injustice In Seatle)  that say an investigation on other officers on the scene of this incident should be investigated as well. All I know is that if I or any other regular citizens did something like that, I’m pretty sure we would not have time to resign from our job and sit at home waiting for the investigation.  We’d be in cuffs and sitting in a holding cell somewhere.

I know the people of Oakland are outraged by yet another police incident, but I hope they can come to their own senses and stop all the rioting and other actions that do more damage than good for their cause.  I can only think that Oscar Grant, his daughter and his wife/girlfriend would see it as counter-productive.  By all means, protest, make your voice heard as loud as necessary, but please draw the line at breaking the law.

I have my doubts on this case, but I hope the video and the amount of witnesses present can make the outcome unfavorable for the officer, or should I say ex-officer.  I would be glad to hear of any updates you find on your web travels.

Why aren’t you using Skype?

January 22nd, 2009

It’s around the time of year when I have to renew my Skype & Skype-Out services.  To my surprise, many of my friends, clients and colleagues have no real idea of what Skype is about. In this world of “instant messaging” we all have MSN, Yahoo, ICQ or some kind of messaging system on our computers.  So why have SkypeSkype offers the best quality of PC to PC voice and video communications, which costs the very large price of FREE!  Yes, other messengers offer this kind of capability, but where Skype surpasses them is the ability to call land lines and cell phones from your computer at a very reasonable price.  For a complete year of unlimited calls to the US and Canada, the fee was only around$25.  They even offer the ability to receive calls to your computer, but that is limited to certain areas.

Not only is the quality of the calls you can make through Skype superior, the people that run the company have the right idea about promoting and marketing this service and they aren’t trying to gouge their users with outlandish prices.  And the real hook for me was when they started the PC to Phone service, they offered it for FREE for almost 2 years, and not just to beta testers, but to anyone who wanted to use it.  That is the type of company I want to do business with.  One that sees the big picture and isn’t lead by greed, and that quality far out weighs quantity.

So do yourself a favor and save yourself some money. Give Skype a try.  They have a pay-as-you-go option, so you can test it out and see if it’s for you.  Pick up a headset if you don’t already have one and talk to your friends and family without watching the clock.
